Restaurant Review for The Grills Chop House Grill in Newark Ohio

Last weekend we went to the Blue Oyster Cult concert (which was fabulous) at the Midland Theatre in Newark. I decided to take everyone to The Chop House in Newark Ohio for dinner before the concert. I knew it would be busy so we went early around 5:30.

Even though it wasn't that busy yet the waitress seemed like she was in a panic, which was just odd. And she was pretty grumpy.

We ordered drinks and then finally got the waitress to come back and take our order. After that another very confused woman kept bringing food to our table that wasn't ours. I felt bad for her as she obviously had no clue what she was doing.

Got our salads and they were pretty good. Not a fan of the cranberries in the salad but other than that it was tasty. The bread was fabulous.

We all ordered steaks. Hubby got the filet Oscar Style, my son and I got the Rib Eyes and my daughter in law got the top sirloin. We had also ordered a side of mushrooms and asparagus with holidaise sauce.

The steaks came but none of the sides came with the meal. And our baked potatos (which are huge and meant for two but no one told us that) came plain with no butter or sour cream. My daughter in law had ordered the one that was suppose to be stuffed with cheese, bacon etc. But it came plain.

When I asked the waitress about the sides and potatoes she got really irritated. After a few minutes she finally came back with the mushrooms and asparagus but still nothing for the potatoes. My daughter in law told her to just forget her stuffed potato and I split mine with her. After about 8 minutes we finally got butter and sour cream.

A few minutes later the waitress comes back with the stuffed potato that my daughter in law ordered.  That was good. So then she asked if everything was okay to which I replied the asparagus was cold. She very rudely replied it is supposed to be served at room temperature. Hmm never hear that one before. She was so snippy!! So I pretty much told her she didn't have to be so snippy. When paying these kind of prices for a nice meal I really expect a nice waitress. I will say she did apologize and didn't charge us for the stuffed potato. I think she realized she was blowing it as she was much nicer after that.

The steaks were wonderful. The best I have had since moving from Kansas so many years ago. Cooked perfectly, juicy and just delightful. The stuffed potato was also delicious. It can serve 2 to 3 people its so huge.

The mushrooms were nothing to write home about and like I said the asparagus was cold which to me is a turn off.

I finally had to get up and go outside for a smoke as no one would remove the dirty plates. Ughh I hate that. Once you are done eating no one wants to sit with a table full of dirty plates.

In a nutshell the steaks are fabulous. Well worth the visit. The service is not so great. I have had friends tell me that the service is always lacking so I don't think this is uncommon there. I really did not like that our meal came in pieces instead of all at once.

We had two rounds of drinks for 4, 4 steak dinners and two sides. Bill came to about 250.00 which is about right for a nice steak house.
