Food Critique for Buckin Burgers in Newark Ohio

Soo we went to the new Buckin Burgers in Ohio last night. When we first got there the line was crazy. So we decided to go shop first and then eat.

Went back at 7:30 pm and the line was a little bit better.

We ordered and I used the free coupon for a free fry.

Oddly the girl didn't give us any cups. So we went and sat down to wait. The eating area is not big at all. Its very crammed and loud. Like most of the new restaurants now they were too cheap to put a ceiling in so the noise level is very high. I am just over the whole thing of restaurants not putting in ceilings. Its not cute anymore. Its just cheap.

Anyway the wait was very long. People that were waiting were complaining non stop about the wait. I can't understand why it was taking so long. They only make hamburgers and fries. So you would think when they have a line wrapped around; they would throw hamburger patties on the grill. I am not joking they had like 8 people cooking yet no one was getting their food.

I finally went and asked the girl if we could have cups so I could at least get a drink while I waited. So then I go and get a Pepsi and an Orange drink. The ice machine is barely working. Go back and sit down and take a drink. The orange drink was all carbonated water. It had run out. So I dump it out and get a pepsi. And wait some more

It took almost 25 mins to get two cheeseburgers and 1 fry. Even though we told them we were eating there they put it in a bag.

The fries were all mushy from being in the bag. Yuck. They must have pre bagged them for them to be that cold and mushy?

The hamburgers were okay. Nothing to write home about. Certainly not on par with 5 Guys. Not even close. And they weren't worth waiting 25 mins for.

I was really hoping it would be a great place to eat and was really disappointed. I don't think they will be around long unless they hurry up and figure it out.

If all you make is hamburgers and fries; then they need to be the best hamburgers and fries anyone has ever ate. And you need to be able to do it fairly quickly. I know they got their start in Zanesville with a food truck, but this won't fly in Newark.

As we left we heard more people complaining about the wait.

Review for Mexican Restaurent Puerto Vallarta in Newark Ohio

Puerto Vallarta
269 Deo Dr,
 Newark, OH 43055
(740) 364-1411

I have been to this restaurant several times in the last couple months. First off I will say the service is always poor. It just is. Its a fairly busy restaurant especially in the evenings and they rarely have enough employees working. Especially if you go in the evening on a week night.

If you can get past that they do have some good menu items. My favorite is the steak fajitas. Really tasty! Their beef burrito is nothing to write home about. Just an average burrito. My girlfriend really likes their chimichangas.

They are really skimpy with the sides such as rice and beans. Especially the rice.

Every time I have been there we have to wait forever to get someone to take our money. They do not have a designated cashier so you have to wait until one of the waiters has time to cash you out. Hate that!!

Restaurant Review for IHOP in Heath Ohio

IHOP
651 Hebron Road
HEATH, OH 43056-1349
(740) 522-6192
  • Mon-Thu 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM
  • Fri-Sat 24 Hours
  • Sun 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM
So unfortunately for me Ruby Tuesday's closed their Heath location. Dang I really liked their burgers and salad bar.

IHOP just opened there after extensive remodeling. I have been to the new IHOP in Heath Ohio two times now.

The first time was horrible. They had been open 2 weeks and we went for breakfeast. The place was a zoo. The poor waitress's were so confused and scattered. I was shocked they didn't have trainers helping them. We did see a manager but he was sitting with some buddies chatting at a table and never noticed the chaos that was surrounding him. Not a good sign.

I ordered biscuits and gravy with link sausage. Hubby ordered 2 eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. Easy peasy. But apparently not so easy at IHOP. Mine came all in separate plates which I thought was odd. I poured them all on one plate and gave the extra plates back to the waitress.

The biscuits and gravy was COLD. Like refrigerator cold. Yuck. I sent it back. She finally (after about 20 mins so hubby was done eating) brought me a new kinda warm plate of biscuits and gravy. At this point I gave up. Took a couple bites and just left it and ate the sausage links. I really feel bad for the waitress we had as she was just a hot mess. Not fair to put new employees out there to take orders when they have not been fully trained.

We got our bill and I about had a heart attack. Two breakfasts came to 35.00. I called the waitress over and had her look. She agreed that something was definitely wrong. She did go fix the bill and bring it back. Apparently she had ordered my food as all sides instead of a meal. At least she fixed it and she took the biscuits and gravy completely off.

Last week my son wanted to go there so we tried it again. Service was much better and things seem to have calmed down. All the food was hot and served promptly so kudos on that. Waitress was great. We had breakfast again but I did not dare order biscuits and gravy. Just got eggs and bacon since that seems safe.

All in all not bad but not great either. I am going to try them for lunch one of these days.

Restaurant Review for The Grills Chop House Grill in Newark Ohio

The Grills Chop House
On the square in downtown Newark
10 North Park Place
Newark, Ohio
(740) 344-2467

Last weekend we went to the Blue Oyster Cult concert (which was fabulous) at the Midland Theatre in Newark. I decided to take everyone to The Chop House in Newark Ohio for dinner before the concert. I knew it would be busy so we went early around 5:30.

Even though it wasn't that busy yet the waitress seemed like she was in a panic, which was just odd. And she was pretty grumpy.

We ordered drinks and then finally got the waitress to come back and take our order. After that another very confused woman kept bringing food to our table that wasn't ours. I felt bad for her as she obviously had no clue what she was doing.

Got our salads and they were pretty good. Not a fan of the cranberries in the salad but other than that it was tasty. The bread was fabulous.

We all ordered steaks. Hubby got the filet Oscar Style, my son and I got the Rib Eyes and my daughter in law got the top sirloin. We had also ordered a side of mushrooms and asparagus with holidaise sauce.

The steaks came but none of the sides came with the meal. And our baked potatos (which are huge and meant for two but no one told us that) came plain with no butter or sour cream. My daughter in law had ordered the one that was suppose to be stuffed with cheese, bacon etc. But it came plain.

When I asked the waitress about the sides and potatoes she got really irritated. After a few minutes she finally came back with the mushrooms and asparagus but still nothing for the potatoes. My daughter in law told her to just forget her stuffed potato and I split mine with her. After about 8 minutes we finally got butter and sour cream.

A few minutes later the waitress comes back with the stuffed potato that my daughter in law ordered.  That was good. So then she asked if everything was okay to which I replied the asparagus was cold. She very rudely replied it is supposed to be served at room temperature. Hmm never hear that one before. She was so snippy!! So I pretty much told her she didn't have to be so snippy. When paying these kind of prices for a nice meal I really expect a nice waitress. I will say she did apologize and didn't charge us for the stuffed potato. I think she realized she was blowing it as she was much nicer after that.

The steaks were wonderful. The best I have had since moving from Kansas so many years ago. Cooked perfectly, juicy and just delightful. The stuffed potato was also delicious. It can serve 2 to 3 people its so huge.

The mushrooms were nothing to write home about and like I said the asparagus was cold which to me is a turn off.

I finally had to get up and go outside for a smoke as no one would remove the dirty plates. Ughh I hate that. Once you are done eating no one wants to sit with a table full of dirty plates.

In a nutshell the steaks are fabulous. Well worth the visit. The service is not so great. I have had friends tell me that the service is always lacking so I don't think this is uncommon there. I really did not like that our meal came in pieces instead of all at once.

We had two rounds of drinks for 4, 4 steak dinners and two sides. Bill came to about 250.00 which is about right for a nice steak house.

Restaurant Review for Chengs Restuarant/Mongolian BBQ Newark Ohio

The other day I went to Chengs Restaurant/Mongolian BBQ in Newark Ohio. I will say I am not a fan of buffets but was in a hurry so went anyway.

It was about 2 hours before closing time and although the restaurant wasn't busy it was a mess. Yikes. The carpet in the dining room looked like it had not be swept all day.

They do have a huge buffet with lots of different dishes. Unfortunately like most buffets I did not feel that the hot food was kept as hot as it should be. There is quite a bit of American food mixed in with the same fast food Chinese you see everywhere else. The General Tso's chicken was okay and the Lo Mein was not so good.

The food is mediocre at best. Not great not terrible and certainly nothing to write home about.

Service is pretty much non existent. We never saw our waitress again once she brought our drinks. No drink refills thats for sure!

And my final pet peeve no check from the waitress and I had to wait about 10 mins to pay as everyone was busy rolling silverware. That so pisses me off. I finally had to ask if there was anyone I could pay in a very loud voice to get anyone to come to the register. Man I hate that. Why should I have to beg someone to take my money?

Food Review Steak Escape Newark Ohio

Steak Escape
1142 N 21st St
Newark, OH 43055
(740) 281-0793

So next to a grilled reuban sandwich my next favorite would be a philly cheesesteak sandwich. Recently this Steak Escape in Newark Ohio shut down for remodeling and re opened.

Hubby and I went there the other day. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted with yelling, whooping etc. Umm that really is not necessary and its actually embarassing. Whose idea was that? Seriously stop it! The public doesn't want to be screamed at when they walk in the door. They just want good food and service.

Anyway we both ordered the deluxe steak sandwich, fries to split and 2 drinks. I have to say it was disappointing. There was nothing deluxe about the sandwich and I could hardly find any onion or mushroom. For the price it was a very skimpy steak sandwich. The taste was okay but nothing to write home about. Again I will pay a higher price for food but it has to be great food for a higher price. Definitely over priced for what you get.

I got an ice tea and it was horrible. It had gone sour. Why why do restaurants do this? I poured it out and got a root beer. I did tell the girl at the counter the tea was sour but she never moved to fix it.

They had a ton of employees just standing around doing nothing. Having been in the industry they had better reign that in soon or they will have to put up the dreaded closed sign. If I had been in charge I would have been cutting employees and sending them home.

I also spied one employee using the bathroom with their apron on. Huge no no. The health department is not a fan of that. Take your apron OFF before you use the restroom!! Yuck. That is basic restaurant 101.

Food Critique for Capt'n Woody's Buckeye Lake Ohio

My friend called me spur of the moment the other day and asked me if I wanted to go have a drink and dinner at Capt'n Woody's in Buckeye Lake. I immediately said yes! I love spur of the moment outings. I have heard about Capt'n Woody's but even though I have now lived in this area for years I had never made it there. We picked a table outside to enjoy the view of the lake. Heres a picture I took looking out from our table

Way too much fun! While we were waiting for a couple more friends a waitress asked us if we would like a drink while we waited. Hell yeah! I asked her if they had a signature drink and she said they had one made with Pinnacle Sherbert Vodka. That was all it took for me. She brought it out in this cute coconut cup that you get to keep I am not a fan of drinks that are too sweet but this was perfect. I wish I had written down what was in it. All I remember is a couple kinds of juice.

Anyway we then ordered some appetizers. I ordered fried zucchini and my friends ordered jalapeno poppers and fried pickles. I have never had fried pickles so I was excited to try them. But once I did I didn't like them. I guess that just isn't my thing. I will say the zucchini was the best I have ever had. In fact I am craving some while I write this. Instead of slices they are big fat sticks. All of us at the table agreed they were wonderful. And you get a huge basket of them for 5.00.

I then ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was really really well done so not my cup of tea. I know restaurants have to be careful but this was so burnt on the edges that I could only eat the middle. All of my friends were very happy with their food. One friend got sweet potato fries and said they were awesome. Ya all know I bitch a lot about bad service so I will give our waitress kudos as she was on the ball!

Great service, great drinks and good food. All with a lakeview. I will definitely be back sooner than later. I got two drinks, an appetizer and the cheeseburger n fries and my bill with tip was 27.00. Not bad considering I got to bring the cute cup home. I am going to start taking pictures of my food. I don't know why I never think of that?
